🔍 Content & structure
- Direct, quotable answers at the start of every section
- Logical organization with subheadings and structured paragraphs
- Use of lists (e.g. bullet points, FAQs)
- Short, precise sentences with a clear message
Make sure you lead with a core statement at the start of your sections to “catch” the user right away. In the text that follows, you can break down and explain that statement or question.
🧠 Semantics & context
- Use of semantically related terms for the main topic
- Contextualizing the topic (What? Why? For whom?)
- Natural embedding of keywords, but no keyword stuffing
Offer the AI search engines meaningful semantics and use related terms as well as synonyms. Keywords may be inflected and declined so that the reading flow is preserved. Even so, Google and the rest still know which keyword you’re targeting.
🧾 Trust & transparency
- Naming authors, ideally with a profile or expert status
- Linking to reputable sources
- Publication or update date visible
- Citing real-world experience, statistics, or quotes
Be transparent: who wrote the article? If there’s expertise, it has to be clearly shown through the person behind it. This gives the user a good feeling, and the search engines can determine whether a real human and an expert created the content.
🏗️ Technical & formal optimization
- Use structured data (e.g. FAQPage with JSON-LD)
- Machine-readable content (no text in images, clean HTML structure)
- Allow open indexing (no robots.txt block for bots)
- Use of canonical tags for similar content
Avoid unnecessary walls of text and make the content readable and easy to grasp for both users and crawlers. Text fragments such as tables, checklists, and the like with a clean HTML structure are preferred by AI search engines. On top of that, you should give crawlers a technically flawless experience. If a bot is blocked via robots.txt, your content can’t be read.
📈 Authority & search visibility
- Strengthening brand authority through mentions on third-party sites (e.g. Wikipedia, media, industry portals)
- Mentions and backlinks in forums or platforms
- Social proof or trust elements (e.g. reviews, testimonials)
- Consistent content style to strengthen recognizability
Off-page SEO is the keyword here. Position yourself on relevant portals in your niche with guest posts and mentions, or get actively involved in forums. Simply collecting backlinks, the way it used to be done, is no longer enough. Your authority on the web should develop holistically. Social media profiles that you actively maintain also feed into your authority. Whenever you place your content on other websites, always make sure you provide high-quality content for readers.
📊 Measuring success
- Tracking your visibility in generative AI answers (manually or via a GEO tool)
- Monitoring citations by SGE, chatbots, or answer engines
- A/B tests between traditionally optimized and GEO-optimized text
Tracking is everything. Because all the points listed above can only be measured if you use a suitable tool. What are your users searching for, and how satisfied are they with your content? Sift through the market for a suitable tool (e.g. Sistrix, peec.ai, or similar) to get the optimal workflow.
